Professional Overview

Dr. Alka Mukne is presently Head, Department of Pharmacognosy & Phytochemistry at Bombay College of Pharmacy. An accomplished pharmaceutical scientist with over 3 decades of rich experience in pharmaceutical teaching and research, Dr. Mukne has successfully guided M. Pharm. and 4 Ph. D. students. Her research students are all well - placed in industry and academia, both on the national as well as international landscape.

Dr. Alka Mukne has been invited as Member of the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) Syllabus Committee for undergraduate & postgraduate pharmacy & has played an active role in contributing to the updation & revision of BPharm & MPharm syllabus that was implemented in pharmacy colleges across the country. As Member of Expert Working Group, Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission, she has actively contributed to revisions in monographs of Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP).

As a committed professional, with a strong ethos of giving back to the profession, Dr. Mukne has been actively involved in professional associations & societies in senior leadership roles, including Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA), Society for Ethnopharmacology (SFE) and Society for Pediatric Medicines & Healthcare Initiatives (PMHI).

Indian Pharmaceutical Association (IPA)

2010 - Present

As National Hon. Treasurer, IPA, since 2024, Dr. Alka Mukne has been involved in managing the financial affairs of IPA. As Member, Board of Trustees of IPA since 2010 to date, have been involved in senior policy decision making of the Association and ensuring that the objectives of the Association are met. During this period, she has functioned as Scientific Convener & Member of Scientific Committee of various IPA events viz. IPA Conventions, IPA conferences with American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), The Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Technology, Japan (APSTJ) & European Directorate of Quality of Medicines (EDQM).

Pharma Times, Official Publication of IPA

2010 - 2024

As Hon. Editor, Pharma Times from 2010 to 2024, had been responsible for editing, publishing and printing around 13,000 copies of Pharma Times every month, that are sent complimentary to all IPA members and IPA affiliates including FIP, AAPS, CPA, FAPA and WHO. Celebrated the completion of 50 years of Pharma Times, by organizing a commemorative conclave with enthusiastic participation from top regulators & industry.

As Member of the B. Pharm. & M. Pharm. Syllabus Committee of PCI, was responsible for framing & finalizing the syllabus for B. Pharm. Course, that is being implemented by pharmacy colleges in India.

Society for Ethnopharmacology (SFE)

2017 - present

As Founder Co-ordinator, Mumbai Chapter of SFE, setup the Mumbai Chapter of the Society in 2017 and since then am responsible for furthering the objectives of the Society by ensuring growth in member base and organizing seminars and workshops that help disseminate knowledge in the area of natural product research. The maiden seminar of the Mumbai Chapter was organized in December 2018, in collaboration with HADSA, IDMA & AFSTI.

Pediatric Medicine & Healthcare Initiative (PMHI)

2021 - present

Founder Member & Founder Hon. Treasurer of PMHI, a non profit organization formed to help identify the issues in developing pediatric formulation, & registered as a Society in 2021.
