Milestones
The BOMBAY COLLEGE OF PHARMACY has completed 50 years of its existence
- 1956 - The idea of establishing the Bombay College of Pharmacy (BCP) was formulated under the leadership of the Late Prof. M. L. Khorana in, in the form of a short term course called "Practising Pharmacists Training (P.P.T.) course"
- 1957 - The Diploma course was started and BCP was formally constituted
- 1966 - , The building at Kalina was inaugurated and BCP hosted the 18th Indian Pharmaceutical Congress
- 1970 - BCP was affiliated to the Mumbai University for the B. Pharm. course
- 1973 - BCP was affiliated to the Mumbai University for the M. Pharm & the PhD (Tech) course. The college also received its first research grant from CSIR. Since then several important events have marked the progress of BCP
- 1976 - The UNESCO Microbiology workshop
- 1977 - The Second Commonwealth Pharmaceutical Congress jointly with the 28th I.P.C.A. and thePharma Expo
- 1981 - The Research Society of the Bombay College of Pharmacy established and registered under the Govt. of India Industrial Research Department (DSIR).
- 1982 - The M.S.D. auditorium, with seating capacity of 500 was opened
- 1984 - The Silver Jubilee of the college was celebrated and an International Symposium on "Advances in Drug Delivery System" was held
- 1987 - The Vasvik Research Wing was inaugurated and an International Symposium on "Controlled Release Dosage Forms" was held and the Staff Quarters for senior faculty members constructed
- 1988 - M. K. Rangnekar Memorial Laboratory was inaugurated
- 1990 - 1993 - Foundation and opening of "Bioavailability Centre"
- 1993 - International Symposium on and Permanent Affiliation Granted By University of Mumbai
- 1995 - Inauguration of "Ramesh Banatwala Memorial Industrial Pharmacy Laboratory and Permanent affiliation to University of Mumbai.
- 1996 - 1997 - Donation of Rs. 600,000 and 1,000,000 from E. Merck Ltd. And German Remedies for Renovation of E. Merck Laboratory and Chemistry Laboratory, respectively
- 1998 - Golden Jubilee IPCA Conference Jointly with FAPA Conference
- 2001 - Patent Awareness Workshop in collaboration with WIPO- Govt. of India.
- 2002 - Establishment of Academy for Clinical Excellence (ACE) in Collaboration with Pfizer Global Research
- 2004 - Received grant from DST for improving labs & libraries.
- 2005 - Establishment of the Nihchal Israni Microbiological Laboratory in the MKR Drug Testing Facility. Renovation of the Students Reading Room and setting up of the Computer Centre.
- 2008 - Golden Jubilee Celebrations. An International Symposium "Designing the future .... New Medicines and New Methods" was conducted on 18th and 19th Jan. 2008 at Hyatt Regency. Mumbai.
- 2008 - Accreditation for five years by NBA
- 2011 - Approval for Postgraduate course in Pharmaceutical analysis with intake for 18. Course started in 2012-13.
- 2013 - Ranked Country's 4th Best Pharmacy College by "Career-360" Survey.Inauguration of Radiopharmacy-Isotopy Laboratory (RIA Lab). Received Best Industry Linked Institute in Pharmacy category from AICTE-CII
- 2014 - Received Best Industry Linked Institute in Pharmacy category from AICTE-CII
- 2015 - Received Best Industry Linked Institute for Pharmacy in mentors category from AICTE-CII. BCP and University of Mumbai felicitated for 100 years at international competition AVISHKAR 2014.
- 2016 - Ranked as 6th Best Pharmacy College in India by NIRF. Member Award for Best Industry-Linked Pharmacy Institute from AICTE-CII.
- 2017 - Accreditation for 5 years by NBA. Grant Rs. 5.87 Crore from DST by National Facility for Research & Training. Ranked 5th amongst Pharmacy Institutions by NIRF.
- 2018 - Presented with National Education Leadership Award by ABP News. Ranked 3rd among Pharmacy Institutions by NIRF. 3rd Best Industry Linked Institute in Pharmacy category from AICTE-CII.
- 2019 - Presented with National Education Leadership Award by ABP News. Ranked 2nd among Pharmacy Institutions by NIRF. Golden Jubilee Celebrations at BCP - International Symposium “Designing the Next Generation of Therapeutics for the future” held on Jan 4th & 5th, 2019. Best Industry Linked Institute in Pharmacy category from AICTE-CII.
- 2020 - Ranked 2nd among Pharmacy Institutions by NIRF. Received continuation of Autonomous Status from 2019-20 to 2028-29.
- 2021 - Conducted National Executive Workshop & Award by APTI RKS. Ranked 2nd among Pharmacy Institutions by NIRF. Successfully conducted a certificate course and special workshop for BDRA under special grant of Ecosystem Enabler.
- 2022 - Prestigious Scholarship Prime Minister's Fellowship Programme for PhD was awarded to Ms. Hindiya Tarannum under DST-SERB. CSR funded under DST, Ph.D. Student 8/2022. 2-star rating for Institution Innovation Council (IIC). Started a Certificate Course in Data Analytics in Healthcare in collaboration with NAFIQ. Ranked 2nd among Pharmacy Institutions by NIRF National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). Selected as host institute for the Distinguished Chair Professor Scheme of AICTE. Selected for special grant of Ecosystem Enabler under National Biopharma Mission (Wellcome Trust). Successfully conducted the national workshop on QbD and QR coding of medicines.
- 2023 - Started Group, PG & PhD Diploma course in Data Science in collaboration with NMIMS University. Collaboration with IISER Mumbai under MoU for necessary infrastructure ensuring lush environment. Nominated by DY Regional office for Green Campus Award.
- 2024 - Successfully completed 10 yrs of Green Energy.
- 2025 - In collaboration with PharmaCertify started guiding academically weaker students. In collaboration with Digital Health Associates started Professional Development Program in Digital Health for Pharmacists. In collaboration with Pharmad started orientation program to business strategy theme for GNM/NP/NP MBA Entrance exams. A safety alarm system has been installed in all the campus facilities for safety. Successfully completed 10 yrs of Green Energy. Collaboration with NatSci-BCP Institute for Industry Project for Artificial Intelligence-based bioconjugation reaction prediction & performance investigation.
In the effort to be the premier institute, BCP has been at the forefront with regard to undergraduate pharmacy education as well as its research programs for training Master's and Doctoral students. The faculty at BCP has received over Rs. 100 million in research grants from AICTE, DST, UGC, CSIR, ICMR, and Rs 10 million from the corporate sector. These grants have made BCP self-sufficient in several important facilities like spectrophotometers, HPLC, GC, HPTLC, flash chromatography, Silicon Graphics Computers, molecular modeling software, and much more.
The student community at BCP, besides being academically excellent, has also shown its talent in various extra-curricular activities.
