1) Annual Day Celebration
Bombay College of Pharmacy organized its 56thAnnual Day Celebration
on 6th February 2014, which was attended by faculty, support staff, research scholars,
students, Alumni and parents. The event was supported by sponsors like Lupin, Gattefosse,
Wockhardt, Scot, Binani Cement, Indian Oil, Academy of Clinical Excellence, Associated
Gagafusu, Corporation Bank, Indoco Remedies, SBI, Kalpana, JVJ Stationary etc.
Dr. M. N. Saraf, Principal welcomed the audience with his speech. Mr.
Nitin Maniar, Chairman – Governing Body BCP and Honorary Secretary IPA-MSB, spoke
about the objectives set and to execute BCP vision 2020 consisting of integrated
campus, industry university collaboration, center of excellence, hostel, pharmacy
museum and many more features.
Mrs. Vinita Gupta, Chief Guest was introduced by Dr. Saraf. She
was an alumnus of BCP and he had thought her as a visiting faculty in pharmacology
1989. Subsequently she did MBA from J. L. Kellog Graduate School of Management North
Western University. She is chairperson of Lupin Pharmaceuticals Inc and CEO of Lupin
Limited. She is not responsible for setting up API in USA and Europe, but also instrumental
for strategies that had Lupin emerge as global specialty pharma power house. Her
global vision, accomplishment, leadership and pioneer spirit of business strategy
and execution has taken Lupin to a turnover of s 700 million in 7year of having
formulated business operation in USA. Lupin Pharmaceutical Inc. is a 5th largest
and fastest growing generic player in USA and Mrs. Vinita has been at the helm of
its affairs. Winner of inaugural pharmacist and Young USA 2012 Family Business Award
of Excellence, and Ernst and Young Entrepreneur award for the health service and
technology for Merion Pharmaceuticals.Mrs.Vinita Gupta has also been named as one
of the 13 most influential Indian Business women.
The Annual report of BCP was presented by the Principal: The
college had an output of 56 B.Pharm, 25 M. Pharm, and 5 Ph.D. students. Ms. SukadaShevade
ranked 3rd in the final year B. Pharm from 22 colleges affiliated to Mumbai university.
Some of the students have gone abroad to undertake specialized training in the University
of Jena, Germany, University of Helsinki, Word Intellectual Property Organization
Summer School, Singapore.
Five students went for higher education to international institutions
through competitive exam GRE. As many as 55 research papers including 41 in international
publications and 9 in national publications, besides presentations (51) in national
and international conferences and workshops. Faculty members actively participated
in academic programs as speakers, chairman of scientific committees with impact
in terms of deliberations in the conferences. Many seminars and lectures were organized
to have a holistic academic program. Radioimmunoassay laboratory was at inaugurated
at BCP followed by lectures on related topics. Seminars were conducted on new facets
of medicinal chemistry and drug discovery and development, supported by AICTE and
Royal society of Chemistry, Hands on training of software, guest lecture on optimizing
chemotherapy and drug discovery from bench to clinic. Number of equipments were
added to the tune of about Rs.1 crore, 13 lakhs through government agencies including
UGC infrastructure besides some industries. BCP undertook collaborative projects
with industry and academia. A number of collaborative projects have been undertaken
including KEM hospital, Cancer research Institute, and Serum Institute of Pune,
TIFR, NMIMS, Haffkine Institute, HomiBhaba Institute, IIT-B, BRNS etc.
Collectively the teaching staff and the students have achieved
many milestones by projecting BCP’s image as a premier flagship institute in pharmacy.
Professor Dr. (Mrs.) M. S. Nagarsenkar, Student Councils In- charge received Best
Research National Award from Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India and
Prof. M. L. Khorana Best Research paper Award to a group of student in conjunction
with her. Besides best paper, best Research poster Award conferred on all three
sectors (undergraduate, post graduate and PhD) of Avishkar 8th Inter University
Research Convention. IASP NeupSIG Bursary Award in International Congress on Neuropathic
Pain held in Toronto, Canada.
Two of non-teaching staff Namely Mr. S. S. More and Mr. Salim Shaikh retired from
their duties in 31st May 2014. Mr. S. S. More served in the college for almost 32
years while Mr. Salim Shaikh served for his last two years of 35 year service at
Bombay College of Pharmacy. The Staff and Management of Bombay College of Pharmacy
appreciated their contributions in the Farewell function and wished them best of
luck for their second innings.
A farewell party was also hosted for Dr. (Mrs) Hema A Nair, Assistant Professor
in Pharmacy on 24th Jul 2014. Dr HAN is an alumnus of Bombay College of Pharmacy
and had been teaching various subjects in pharmacy at Bombay College of Pharmacy
since 1999. After fifteen years of dedicated service she had to resign from the
post due to domestic reasons. The management, faculty, non-teaching staff and students
greeted her with best wishes for future endeavours.
Dr.RaghuvirPissurlenkar left the services of the college on 22nd September
2014. Dr Pissulenkar had joined BCP in 2006 as a lecturer and he is now Associate
Professor at Goa College of Pharmacy.
The College was inspected by Pharmacy Council of India on 20-21st August
2014. The final report of the committee is being awaited.
Dr.Raghuram Rao inspected Bombay College of Pharmacy on 27th October 2014,
on behalf of AICTE-CII after being shortlisted for award of Best Industry Linked
4)Gatherings and Celebrations
a) Prof. H. P. Tipnis, The Ex-principal of Bombay College of Pharmacy invited
all the Governing body and staff under the umbrella of IPA-MSB on 6th September
2014to celebrate his receipt of LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENT Award. The Chairman, Principal,
Alumni and staff of BCP and IPA-MSB, spoke and congratulated Dr. Tipnis on this
b) On 6th December 2014, The Governing Body of Bombay College of Pharmacy,
hosted celebration of winning the Award of AICTE-CII Best Industry Linked Institute,
second time in a row. The Principal briefed about the process and how and why Bombay
College of Pharmacy was shortlisted for this awards. He also thanked everybody involved.
The Chairman also praised and motivated the staff. He also informed that this time
it was clean swip, no college in the country was even closer to Bombay College of
Pharmacy in AICTE-CII’s ranking. Dr. Mondkar also spoke on the occasion and he promised
that management is ready to extend any kind of support to keep the institute at
this top position. Eminent Ex- faculty members Prof. Tipnis and Prof. Bhalla were
also present at this gathering who also gave motivating speeches to the audience.
